What is the family passphrase?

The family passphrase is a secret phrase that encrypts all your family's data. When you create a family, you choose a passphrase. Family members need this passphrase to join and decrypt the shared content.

Important: Store your passphrase securely. If lost, we cannot recover your encrypted data.

How do I invite family members?

There are two ways to invite family members:

Option 1: QR Code (Recommended)

  • Go to Settings > Invite Family
  • Generate a QR code invitation
  • Have your family member scan the code with the app
  • They'll be instantly added to your family

Option 2: Passphrase

  • Share your family passphrase with them securely (in person, phone call, etc.)
  • They download the app and select "Join Family"
  • They enter the passphrase to join your family group

Never share your passphrase via unencrypted email or text messages.

I forgot my password. How do I reset it?

You can reset your password from the login screen:

  • Tap "Forgot Password"
  • Enter your email address
  • Check your email for a reset link
  • Create a new password

Note: You'll need to re-enter your family passphrase after resetting your password.

I forgot my family passphrase. Can you recover it?

Unfortunately, no. Your family passphrase is used for end-to-end encryption, which means we never have access to it. This is by design to protect your privacy.

If you've forgotten your passphrase:

  • Ask another family member who may remember it
  • Check if you stored it in a password manager
  • If unrecoverable, you'll need to create a new family group
How do I export my family data?

You can export your data using the Data Takeout feature:

  • Go to Settings > Data & Privacy > Export Data
  • Choose what to export (personal or family data)
  • Select a time range
  • Download as a ZIP file containing PDFs and media
How do I delete my account?

To delete your account:

  • Go to Settings > Account > Delete Account
  • Choose how to handle your content (keep, hide, or delete)
  • Confirm deletion

If you're the last member of a family, deleting your account will also delete all family data.

Is my data really encrypted?

Yes! Family Connection Hub uses AES-256 encryption (the same standard used by banks and governments) for all your family content:

  • Messages are encrypted before leaving your device
  • Photos and voice messages are encrypted before upload
  • Only your family members with the passphrase can decrypt content
  • We cannot read your messages or view your photos
Can I use the app on multiple devices?

Yes! You can use Family Connection Hub on multiple devices:

  • Sign in with the same email and password
  • Enter your family passphrase when prompted
  • All your family content will sync across devices
How do I enable biometric login?

To enable Face ID or fingerprint login:

  • Go to Settings > Security > Biometric Login
  • Toggle on "Enable Biometric Login"
  • Authenticate with your biometric

This stores your password securely on your device for quick access.

The app isn't sending notifications. What should I do?

If you're not receiving notifications:

  • Check that notifications are enabled in your device settings
  • In the app, go to Settings > Notifications and ensure they're on
  • Make sure you haven't enabled Do Not Disturb mode
  • Try signing out and back in to refresh your notification token
How do I connect Google Calendar?

To sync your family events with Google Calendar:

  • Go to Settings > Google Calendar
  • Tap "Connect Google Account"
  • Sign in with your Google account and authorize access
  • Family events will automatically sync both ways

To disconnect, return to Settings > Google Calendar and tap "Disconnect".

How do I set up two-factor authentication (2FA)?

To add extra security with two-factor authentication:

  • Go to Settings > Security > Two-Factor Authentication
  • Tap "Enable 2FA"
  • Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator, etc.)
  • Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator to confirm setup

After setup, you'll need to enter a code from your authenticator app each time you sign in on a new device.

What is Immich backup and how do I use it?

Immich is an optional self-hosted photo backup solution. If you run your own Immich server, you can backup family photos directly to it:

  • Go to Settings > Immich Backup
  • Enter your Immich server URL and API key
  • Enable automatic backup

Your Immich credentials are encrypted and stored locally on your device. We never have access to your Immich server.
